and fairfield and it is freeze ing. when you get away from the wind, it is cold out there this morning. colder than yesterday morning. >> now, this afternoon, breezy conditions. cooler-than-average temperatures. upper 40's and mid-50's and mostly sunny. >> back to the concord area westbound four at 680 we have an accident to the shoulder. the bumper or debris could be in the lanes. i do not see significant slow slowing. but there is possible debris. the industrial valley the drive is looking good over the altamont pass and the livermore area at or below the limit and under 20 minutes toward dublin/pleasanton to the san mateo bridge it is light traffic moving toward hayward and the eastbound direction and foster city westbound with no delays at

14 or 15-minute drive there and the bay bridge toll plaza just a few cars headed into san francisco. no delays. >> we are following breaking news in marin county with the sheriff is investigating the faith shooting of a teenager. this is look at the scene near drake avenue in marin city where the investigators are on the scene. a 17-year-old boy was shot and killed at an apartment complex after midnight. he did not live there and he was staying with family. there is no word on what led to the shooting. there have not been any arrests. investigators are questioning witnesses on the scene. our reporter is also there with a live report on the latest information in the next half hour. >> and the forecast is coming to fruition, people are waking up to below freezing conditions in parts of the bay area. amy is live in danville.

amy? >> it is cold, kristen. you can feel it and see it. look what we found in downtown danville. it is not a common sight but frost on the cars. the east bay is one of the spots the cold is really hitting hard right new. life goes on, at high school in livermore there was a soccer game and loyal fans were there. but many brought comforts from home with heaters, and portable heated seats all to deal with the outdoors. downtown restaurants did serious duty using heaters outside. chp officers say the weather concerns them worried about everyone getting home because they say the black ice can be dangerous. >> road looks wet and you do not notice the fire spray coming off the road and that is something to watch out for.

you are probably on black ice. >> officers say it is a good idea to have emergency supplies in your car including a warm blanket or warm clothes because you never know. the freeze warning is in effect until 8:00 this morning and another one tomorrow morning so this worth is going to stick around and it is the kind that will kill plants and corners and hard on pets so bundle up and stay that way because the weather is here to stay for a while. >> thank you very much. if you are headed down south you will want to check the road conditions before you leave home, the weather is causing problems for drives on interstate five over the grapevine and chp closed the grapevine twice yesterday as the cold front swept in snow at elevations above 2,000 feet and the ice created dangerous roadways as dozens of accidents were reported. thousands of drives were stuck in the vehicles for hours and caltran could only say the road

will re-open when the weather allowed. >> if it is slushy it is fine but when the slush stops you are in ice and you have to worry about black ice. >> caltrans have been working over time to keep the roads clear. the winter conditions in southern california will remain throughout the weekend. this morning, it remains closed. >> the shows police department are looking if a new leader, chris moore's last day is a week from today. the city manager is expanding the search for a replacement after interviewing candidates they are looking for the "right fit" for san jose. >> someone who is a good manager and leader and a good communicator who is sensitive to the wide diversity of our community, who can address the morale and budget issues. >> the department is losing more than just the chief.

notice how fast the jet stream is over the top of the cold air which is heavier that sinks to the ground it grabs the wind is if you are not in a sheltered valley you are not seeing the true extent of the cold air yet. tomorrow morning, better chance when the winds are calm and we are gusting to 32 at half moon bay on a brick morning at the beeps. novato is 16 for the fastest winds. we will drop into the 30's this morning and we will be cooler but not potentially as cold as it could be if the winds would stop the mostly sunny and upper 40's through the lunch hour and near 50 for the afternoon. with dry conditions today. this evening it will be cool again about 39 inland for the evening and low-to-mid 40's around the bay and to the coast. this week under it will be colder tomorrow morning and the same in the afternoon and more sunshine but still in the low 50's for sunday and a slow

donated $9,000 so far to pay for a new more secure monument. the plaque honored 15 service member killed in the vietnam war. police say it was probably stolen in the days before christmas by thieves who wanted to sell the bronze for scrap. >> the f.d.a. is requiring makers of ambient and other sleeping pills to lower the dosage because you have a higher risk of injury because of increased chance of car accidents because of drowsiness. they will cut the dose in half for women who process the drug slowly and lower god -- lower the dose for men. this includes the generic ambient. >> santa clara officials are learning an expensive lesson

about hosting the super bowl at the 49ers new stadium under construction. the cities count on picking up a lost tourism money but the nfl is already talking about concessions such as maybe the city giving up a slice of sales tax revenue from hotels while preventing santa clara from charging sales tax which could mean millions less for the city. >> 49ers head coach harbaugh decided not to change kickers tomorrow night against green bay. harbaugh announced david akers will remain starting place kicker after a week of competition with the newly signed cundiff. he started with a bang nailing an nfl report tying 63-yarder in the opener against the packers but akers has struggled since. kickoff is tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. niners are showing off their

looking from east bay hills across emeryville and the bay bridge to san francisco, it looks clear. it is still picking up a few radar runs over the ocean. the radar returns are small. we do not see rain even out there. and around santa rosa, 101 has a few clouds picked up with the wind and another reason why we are keeping the temperatures up a little bit this morning. this set up we talked about it yesterday is going to keep the showers if any develop over the ocean. that is where the flow and the great of the instability is. we are flub in napa and 28 in fairfield and 35 in concord and san jose and 36 in livermore and mountain view and los gatos, as well, and everyone else low-to-mid 40's. 32 in gilroy and 47 in monterey.

today, it will be mostly sunny and you need the sunglasses but a light cold because it will be cool. another freeze tonight and more wide-spread freeze because we do not have the wind of this morning. dry extended period, talking all seven days, without wet weather. we have a small disturbance in the atmosphere to the north and that will rise the jet stream over the ocean and it will help lock in another cold night for us tonight and possibly again saturday night and it could be another frosty night inland. with the jet stream to the north it is headed to the dry air and that is what is bringing us this dry pattern the next several days. we do have the king tide at 10:26 so well have step swells and the bay will see minor flooding of low-lying spots. 5:00 it will be mostly sunny and

no problems on the upper deck, and smooth into san francisco with no problems and light stuff on the span. we have a a minor issue westbound four at 680 which is cleared to the shoulder. from the central valley, still looking good up and over the altamont pass and checking in with speeds of 60 to 65 miles per hour moving to dublin/pleasanton area. kristen and eric? >> snakes on a plane? that was a movie and over australia, life imitated art. that is a snake. on a plane. a 10' python. yesterday, passengers on the flight got out the cell phones and cameras to capture the image. there it is. right there. the snake was clinging to the wing but did not survive the two hour flight. snakes often are found in swamps

this is the scene five hours later, still crime scene investigators and marin county patrol deputies and the core increase, still here investigating and interview witnesses. this is video from a few hours ago. authorities received multiple 9-1-1 calls about shots. when they arrived they tried to perform cpr but he was dead after two or three gunshot wounds. it is not clear at this point. a woman claiming to be his sister says her only brother turned 17 four days ago and was visiting from near the oregon border and he did not know anyone here and he did not have any problems with anyone in this area. >> he was a good guy in sports, never had an f in school, doing prove, and he graduated last

under freeze warning mid-20's to low 30's this morning and tomorrow. the bayshore line had a frost advisory, with temperatures in the low-to-mid 30's. a hard freeze inland, a frosty bay shoreline, not necessarily a hard freeze. a hard freeze is where you have mid-20's for several hours which is a "killing" frost. i don't like to use that term. but that is what it means. 31 in napa is the cool spot. and fairfield is 28. everyone is wondering where the cold air is, it is in the sheltered valleys because of the wind. this afternoon, still going to be breezy. more sunshine. a few clouds. cooler-than-average temperatures from upper 40's at the coast to upper 40's to mid-50's around the bay and inland. >> live shot of the san mateo bridge moving from hayward and industrial toll plaza to the

flat section getting busy as folks are headed over to foster city. we do nut have major delays in either direction of the san mateo bridge. no problems with mass transit. this weekend, bart is issuing possible delays because of work at 5- to 10-minutes going at 8:00 tomorrow night through sunday. if you take bart on the weekend you could experience delays system-wide starting tomorrow. no other problems with mass transit at this time and eastbound dumbarton bridge with road work for another 25 minutes and that should be picked up by 6:00. >> people in the east bay are dealing with the coldest temperatures in the area and soccer fans braver the cold last night in livermore and fought the chill in the stands with propane heaters and special seats warmed up in a microwave. despite the frigid conditions many were out on the town but drivers are warned to look out for black ice patches.

dozens of accidents have been blamed on slippery conditions. >> 27-year-old fremont man is in custody after a deadly shooting inside his home. a 48-year-old map was shot to death on party court at 5:30 yesterday. the suspect surrendered at the city jail two hours later and gave up the gun used in the shooting. the victim and suspect are related and lived at the home together. so far they are not releasing the names of either man. this is the first homicide of the year. >> new this morning, police are vetting an armed robbery that unfolded overnight at a nordstrom rack store starting as a hold up at 11:30 at nordstrom rack. two remain ad men were spotted and a hostage, a woman. businesses were put on lockdown and the swat team arrived. the hostage is safe and 14 people were hiding in a back room of the store and the suspects got away.

>> lawyers for accused movie shooter james holmes plan to ask for a delay at the arraignment today. the case took a big leap forward last night as the judge rules there was enough evidence to move forward with the trial. prosecutors laid out case for three days. he is accused killing 12 and injuring 70 others in aurora, colorado. the attorneys say he is mentally ill but the victim families do not buy it. >> all that plan to write it and talk about it and plan it. >> the tones say he is not ready to he and will ask for a postponement. >> new troubles for oakland university the site of a mass shooting rampage in april facing new two new wrongful death lawsuits filed by the families of two victims in the campus murder spree on behalf of two of

seven people killed. juan go has leasted not guilty to murder charges and a judge decide he was not corps tenth to stand trial. the lawsuits say the school should have known he could pose a serious danger. >> and the chancellor's welcome address at city college of san francisco will be protested over passage of proposition a by voters for a tax to offset budget cuts and layoffs at city college but they say the officials are using the money for other purposes such as paying consultants and building reserves. they are asking people to shine a pledge to take action if the district does not use the funds as intended. >> the government has concerns about boeing 787 dreamliner jet and the f.a.a. has scheduled a news conference for this morning. the agency is expected to announce a review of the plane's power systems and the manufacturer, the assembly and

and 47 in monterey. no need to worry about wet weather but it will be cool outside and brisk with the breeze. another freeze tonight, a harder free, more wide-spread freeze and the extended period is looking dry with rain in the forecast any day in the seven-day outlook. we have a small disturbance in the atmosphere kicking up showers to the north and jet extreme takes that out over the ocean and most of us are dealing with the sunshine, the cooler and the dry weather. with the jet stream to the north where the air is dry, i don't see any of the storms or the small disturbances coming around and being able to ring out moisture but they are kicking up the surf and a king tide at 10:26 so we have steep swells and we will have minor flooding along the coast and the bay shoreline. now, the game, tomorrow afternoon and evening, 48
